THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT

(The following is a verbatim blogification of simultaneous Twitter and fediverse threads I wrote spontaneously on 2023-11-26.)

the mission of this twitter account, as of now, is NOT for you to see the stuff i've worked on or the inane thoughts i have about technical topics.

the mission of this twitter account, as of now, is to convey the following to you, the core of my being:

THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL

the force that drives me, the light that shines through my soul, the thing that burns within me is:

THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT

why am i called “hikari no yume”? what does this name mean?

it means the light of dreams. it means a deeply sincere passion for the idea of DREAMS. for HOPES. for an idea that THINGS CAN BE BEAUTIFUL. a belief in WONDER and JOY. this is what i am, and this is what i want to save

some people survived the pandemic feeling deeply miserable, because they had to retreat into their local area and they couldn't find joy in it.

for me, though, i think that almost all my time being concentrated in my tiny little suburb actually did immense good for me.

being stuck in this same area all the time, walking and running around this tiny square mile or something only made me appreciate it more. i always loved the birds and the warmth of the sun, but confinement greatly intensified my appreciation. the sky!!! the buildings! the light!

if you're in an area without tall buildings and with an interesting climate, then you need only walk outside in order to have front-row seats to the greatest show in the world. the sky is unimaginably beautiful, constantly changing, and it is like this Every Single Day.

gaze up at the sky! the sky is wonderful! it encloses your entire field of vision, endlessly expansive in every direction. it is something no camera can hope to capture

this is but one tiny example of what i mean when i say: THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT

but the beauty of the world is not limited to mere natural phenomena. we as humans are blessed with an unlimited ability to find beauty in things, and to create it. we can shape things to our tastes, we can reinterpret things in endless ways.

every building is a beautiful object

why do i feel like this? it's not really political, it's a deeper part of my soul.

i have as much cynicism as anyone else about the state of the world, but nonetheless, i still believe:

THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT

moreover, we are blessed with a vast cultural inheritance. there's so many beautiful things that have been created in the past, and which i hope to preserve and continue the traditions of participating in. this is of course why i chose to make touchHLE happen, for example.

this is also part of where my passion for retro creative technology comes from. (e.g. i must eventually write something up about why i have fallen in love with the General MIDI era… it's more than just random fluctuations of taste and nostalgia, it is deeply philosophical)

where am i going with this? where i am going, is to convey to you, the following:

THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT

DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS

EMBRACE THE SPARK OF LIGHT WITHIN YOU, KINDLE IT, LET IT TURN INTO A ROARING FLAME

GO OUT, CREATE AND SAVE WONDERS

at some point, i stopped wanting to be an anime girl, because i had already literally become one. i have the unironic, deeply sincere, innocent passion inside me of a main character in a series written for children. adults must embrace childish wonder at the world.

thank you.

in case you're wondering, yes, something huge did happen to me this week that'll radically change the direction of my life again, but the soul of this thread has already been burning with lower intensity inside me for a long time now, months if not years. the future is bright.
